My 2 chosen Briefs!

After analysing my short list of Briefs, i have decided my two chosen briefs that i will focus on are:

The Open University- Short Film or Documentary

AND/OR

Sega- Animation for Sonic the Hedge Hog

More Analysing of Briefs

Here i have analyzed the last of the briefs in the shortlist in my sketchbook ...

Reboot
Cinemagoers
Bold creative thinking

Young Audiences
Bold, fresh and original

  • Choice of medium
  • New Movie
  • Young Audience
My initial thoughts for this brief, would be to design a poster for the film, and placing the poster in real life situations such as billboards and magazines. The poster would use a very well thought out typography, which would fit with the film and i would use some some footage/images that are actually involved in the film.

Prospects to include in the Poster:
Typography
Pictures
Chilling
Gory
Vivid
Gothic
Dull
Real life places

My initial thoughts to this brief, is to make a leaflet/Pamphlet to advertise his shoes, and give loads of details about his footwear. I would use eye catching photo's and descriptive information to grab the audiences attention. Bright colours and bold text.

(At heine sight, i do not think i will go along with this idea or brief)

Prospects to include in the Pamphlet:
Bright Colours
Bold Text
Eye catching Imagery

British
Humour

Icon/Logo
Communication
Evocatively engaging

  • Logo
  • One-for-All mediums
  • Retailer Shop
To be fair, i am not keen on this campaign as it is so narrow to what i have got to do. Simply, all is needed is a logo, and i do not think i would enjoy doing this job. However, if i was to pick this brief, then i would make sure the Logo is simple, as well as eye catching and uses the famous Marks and Spencers, dark green color in it.

Prospects to include in the Logo:
Small
Corporate
Green
Eye Catching
Simple

Analysing the Briefs

I started off by doing basic brainstorms and analysing the briefs in my sketchbook, of my short list, which then helped me narrow my descisions down to two, ready to present my ideas in London next week:

Sega:

Classic Sonic fans
6-12 year olds
Boys
Cartoons

  • Choice of medium
  • Gaming
  • Celebration
My initial ideas for this Brief, would be to create an animation that includes Sonic the Hedge Hog init, with a comic music track in the background. I would change from various different scenes, and have Sonic doing different things in each scene, such as his famous spinning motion.

Prospects to include in the Animation:
Funny
Story/Animatic
Cartoonish
Hand drawn
Colour
Fast cutting
Music
Posters

The Open Uni:

Keywords in the brief -

  • Choice of medium
  • Slim target audience
  • High prospects

My idea for this subject is to make a short film/documentary. I would interview people that have used the Open Uni to get a degree, people who are thinking about starting a course with the Open University and lastly people that are currently under-going a course with the Open University.

Prospects to include in the documentary/film and others :
Informative
Funny
Story
Cutaways
Fast cuts
Life story
Debate on fees rising within real university
Posters
Billboards

YCN- Short List

I have short listed the briefs to a few that, i would like to take forward. I short listed them to well known companies that i know, so i can relate to them and already have some knowledge on them, which will help me with ideas.

I just wanted to show you some of the key points of my chosen briefs, and then will select my two fianl briefs, that i will take forward and create ideas for our next class, where we discuss and pitch our ideas to the class.

Sega-
This is a very open creative brief and you are free to respond in any media type including (but not limited to) video, print, paint, audio, online. This should be seen as a piece of brand   communication rather than a specific product communication.

20th Century Fox-

The new movie has to stand up as a standalone release and completely reboot the franchise – particularly as the majority of today’s cinemagoers weren’t even born when the original movie was released.

Marks and Spencers-

We need an icon, logo or family of identity elements that can work and come to life in all of our consumer communication channels. This will be the shorthand through which our customers identify our Plan A products and services. We want this to be evocatively engaging in the way that the WWF panda logo is.

Open Uni-

Your idea should include a compelling message, creative concept and media suggestions. You are free to choose any medium or combination of media that you wish.
We hope that the strongest entry can be turned into a real marketing campaign. If that entry is yours, you will also be given the opportunity of work experience at our creative agency to make it happen.

Ted Baker-

Consider how to communicate both Ted’s personality and the selling points of the product using different media – digital, ambient, etc. – to bring the idea to life (but not traditional press or TV ads).

Now it is time to select the two briefs that i want to concentrate on. At heinze sight, i feel more to go with a brief that is open for ideas and techniques, rather than Strictly following something that a company wants to be made, as i am free to make my own ideas and beliefs.

YNC- The Briefs

Here is the list of Brief's we have been given, for each individual company. As you can see there are some big names in there such as 20th Century Fox, Marks and Sparks and Sega.
This should be interesting....

In total, there are 17 Briefs to choose from, but as you can see, some have been listed in red, by my tutor, to indicate that these briefs should really be left alone, as they are not a sensible choice to pick from, but inless we come up with ideas on that particular brief, what they will like, then we are welcome to go ahead with them.

However, i am just going to take there advice, and go with the 13, not listed in red.

My imediate reaction, is to go with well known companies, such as Sega, 20th Century Fox, Marks and Spencers, Open Uni and Ted Baker, as i can relate to them alot more.

However, by the next lesson, i will have to have decided on two Briefs, and produced research and ideas on both aspects! In my next post, i will have probably shown you, which two briefs i have chosen.
