Meadowlands- Post promo Film

This was created by Myself and Jim Harrison (classmate). We went to Meadowlands a couple of days before it was on, and filmed them setting up the festival, a journey to the ground and the famous Lama's of Glyndebourne.

The music is from a band, that performed at Meadowlands- Tall Ships.

Mobile Website

This is my Mobile Web Optimized site, which i created for Meadowlands.

My Mobile site is fairly similar to my original mockup there were some changes. For example the colours are different. Also content has dramatically changed as it is very limited, as the teachers told me to keep it to a minimum when i showed them the mock-up.

Business Cards and FDA Grad Show Poster

Here is my business card.

I will use these for potential clients and hand them out in various places.

Here is my FDA Poster for the Grad show. Unfortuantely mine didn't get picked as the BA won, down to the teachers.

Online Portfolio

This is my portfolio browsed on the web, and is now up and running, under the domain name: louis-wilson.co.uk.

I have changed a few things from my mock up, as a result of class feedback. I got rid of my louis wilson designs logo in the header as it did not go well with the font i am using by the side of it. I have changed the colour of my buttons, and made it so just the strip at the bottom of them changes colour, not the text and the box surrounding the button. And everything is now up and running.

CV

Here is my CV:

I will use this at all my potential job interviews. And in the future, will place this on my Portfolio.

Online Portfolio Website

Here i have mocked up a version of what i want my Online Portfolio will look like.

I have got 5 main buttons that consist of all the projects i have created over the last 3 years, with a home button, which will include a little bit of info, and a contact button which will take you to a page with my details on it. Imagery is going to be a gallery page, of all images of me on my motorcycle.

Finished Promo Film

This is my final mov, i have made various improvements to it, since i showed it at crit to the class, teachers and client. They really like the piece, but just said it had to be shortened. It was originally 1.30 long, without the animation on the end of it. Now i have got it down to 1.06 with the add on animation.

Project settings- Meadowlands Promo

As i created my film in Final cut, i wont show all the technique as it is basically a repeat of some other previous projects that i have posted on here before. However, i have taken a few screen prints, that i feel are important to show you.

Here is all the settings i have used to create my film.

Here is a screen shot of the website i used for
my music i used. I have used this website for
many projects in the past, and i really recommend it.

This is to show you how i created my opening scenes,
where i had the people entering the ground. All i did was
cut the points what i wanted to use, and overlap them
to get the effect of them jumping from one point
to another. I also sped the shots up.

This last shot shows you, me crossfading one
sound track into another, with the cross fade
transition. Also, to get everything in time,
i had to slow down first soundtrack and it
worked well, and made the video bang
on time with the dancing scenes and shot
of the stereo.

Organising and Preperation for Filming

Today i am shooting my viral video. I will be filming, whilst my friends are in the shots. I have organised my time fairly well. I didn't want to shoot it at mid day, where the sun is at its brightest, as it will probably effect the shots, and not look so clear. I have organized for my friends to come straight to the destination after they finish work. It will be between 5-5.30, which will leave me a short space to film, before it gets dark. If i need to shoot another day, during the weekend, its not a problem.

Destination: Peacehaven, Tye Football playing fields...

Here is a rough schedule that i will follow:

Joe is arriving at mine at 4 o clock, we will shoot the bedroom scene inbetween 4 and 4.30. Then we will put the tent up, draw the banner out, and walk across to the destination and meet others there.

5.30- Shoot the scenes, with everybody there.

If needs be, shoot more scenes, Sunday

Yellow Fish Studio's

Last weekend, a group of us went to Yellow Fish Studio's near Lewes. There was 6 performing acts, that are going to be at Meadowlands. The acts ranged from Chamber Orchestra, Abi Wade, Tall Ships, Kate Walsh, Gypsy and the Wolf and the Miserable Rich.

Our job was to interview the bands, whilst filming and capturing the sound with a boom mic, along with asking them questions. We took stills as well as video footage, and managed to interview some of the organisers that participate in Meadowlands. The day was a really good experience to me, and we all worked well together as a team.

Here are some photo's from the day....

Viral Video Concept- Storyboards

In pitch, we had to present our ideas for a viral video to Mark Ede. Here is my storyboard and idea....

My lecturer's liked the idea of my video, and are looking forward to seeing the end product. They said i will have to be careful though, because it is a very humerus and funny idea, sometimes you can try to be funny, and it can end up, not funny, which will look terrible, so i will have to be really careful with portraying my video.

After Pitch Preperation

Here is a copy of the board my Lecture Andrew wrote down, after Pitch. We divided jobs between us and my class mate Harry Winter and I, have been selected to undergo producing the questions in order to ask the Band members and Press, on Sunday afternoon.

My next post will be considering the questions to ask people on Sunday.

Promotion Video's for other Festivals

Here are some promotion video's for Festivals after promotion :

I quite like this style of video, where they have a bit of footage, along with some stills, a bit of stop motion etc. It has a variety of techniques in it, and is quite successful, but if i was to do something simular, i am not sure if i would have a voice over.

This is another effective promotion video, made up of all stills captured from the reading festival.

This is a promotion video time lapse created for Latitude festival. I really like the use of time lapses, and am thinking that i would like to use this technique in my promo video (possibly in the local lama farm).

Here is some pre promotion video's.

This is a pre promotion video for the Latitude festival, as is done in the style of animation.

This is a pre promo video for Glastonbury, and i like the way they demostate the enviroment of the festival in completely different enviornments. I think this works well, and is very effective!

3G Connection Maps

Today i researched the availability of 3G connectivity  within the Glynde Area. It helps as i know where the area is. as it is a common road i use to go through with my friends on our motorcycles.

 3 Mobile Network

3 mobile network cover most of the area and appears to have fairly 'ok' signal in Glynde, but is not at its strongest, as it is not a deep purple colour.

Vodafone Network

Vodafone is fairly strong but had a few patches in the area which tend to be week in signal.

Orange Network

Orange network coverage seems to be strong in the Glynde area, and seems to be very consistent.

T-Mobile Network

T-Mobile's coverage seems to be very strong as well, but as you can see there are a few white patches within the middle of Glynde, where it is a week signal.

Social Networking

Yesterday i looked at the Twitter and Facebook pages created for Meadowlands, for audiences to track, get information and see the bands etc...
 Twitter:

Facebook:

There are some youtube clips on both pages, links to bands that will be playing in the festival, there are photo's of last years entry and some posts from Mark Ede, himself. However, i think the sites would benefit more, if they interacted with the people who are fans of the site, and give them a bit more information, and would probably seem a bit more interesting if they included some sort of live video, rather than edited music.

On Glastonbury Feastival's Facebook and Youtube Channels, they include:

  • Videos of behind the scenes
  • Photographs from behind the scenes
  • Photographs of previous festivals being set up
  • Band information
  • Charities
  • Band photographs
  • Band interviews
  • Competitions
  • Interaction with fans
  • Polls
  • Interview with fans
  • Ticket sales and deals info
Glastonbury has an attractive facebook & youtube page. They post videos of behind the scenes, interviews with bands and fans, people who commentate the event.  Meadowlands should make a youtube page to make people aware of the event, and get some publicity. I think that Meadowlands would definitely benefit from having their own Youtube channel.

    Preperation for Pitch

These are a list of things i can prepare for, for my pitch, the second week back on a monday morning after half term, with lots of research...

    • Band promotion
    • Music promotion
    • Optimizing web content for mobile
    •  Mobile & 3G coverage
    • Current festivals ideas
    • Festival images
    • Storyboarding/animatics
    • Copy write and public filming laws
    • Legal content and permissions for shooting on premises
    • Transportation and organising

    New Live Brief- Meadowlands Feastival

We have been set a new Live brief. Last Thursday the client came into our class to speak to us about the project. Mark Ede is the organiser of the festival and wants us to think of a campaign that will help attract an audience to the festival. He wants us to help promote Meadowlands.

"A music festival on the 27th-29th May, currently it's second year running and is a very small feastival. He wants to attract a younger target audience to it and will be held in the little village Glynde roughly 15 minutes drive from where i live.

In class we was asked to come up with some ideas to help with the campaign:

Online competitions - win tickets. Band competitions - meet band
    Music videos
    Facebook page
    Youtube advert/Twitter advert
    Posters
    Clothing
    Animations, motion graphics
    Videos - interviews with band
    Videos - behind the scenes
    Blogs - about the preperation
    Blogs sponsored by Meadowlands
    Flyers, Leaflets
    Billboards
    Online banners
    Sticker campaign
    TV Advert
    Badges, Coasters
Local media - Advertisements in paper/leaflets

After talking about the brief, we decided to stay away with T-shirts, coasters, badges because the simple fact that they will cost. We also decided not to go along with the idea of posters/flyers because Meadowfields currently already use them.
We decided to do something Digitally-

A website optimized for smartphones which includes updates on the festival lineups, stages, ticket prices, travel information, music previews, reviews, times, locations and have something to let people upload their own photos and videos.

Each person, in this assignment; will make a promotion video each and create a page that will contribute to the website.

We also talked about creating an app for smartphones that will cover the majority of stuff that the website contains.

My first initial thought about this project is that it can be quite fun to do, but becasue it is a live brief, i will have to make sure my time management is up to scratch and make sure all my deadlines are met and that i dont fall behind. It is also going to be quite enjoyable becasue the fact of it being related to music festival, i like this as i go to festivals myself, so i can relate to the subject.

Lastly, here is the festivals logo-

    Exported and Final MOVS

    Here are my finals MOVS......

Here is my first short movie, where it introduces the people and signs into all the social networking sites ....

Here is my second movie, where it includes people that want to study with the OU...

Here is my last movie, where it includes people that have gained their degrees with the OU...

    Exporting my work into MOVS

After i had finished all my editing and my films were complete, i had to export them as MOVS so people could watch them in quicktime and online etc....

I did this by going to- File>Export>Using Quicktime Conversion. Originally i had trouble with this as i only selected Quicktime Movie, not Conversion. What this did is exported the movie, but it was not 'stand alone', so as soon as you dragged the movie away from the original FCP versions, i did not work, it would only work locally to its original files. So i asked my lecturer and they told me where i went wrong.

Then when it brought up the next menu, i had to click on the options tag, and check i had all the correct settings i wanted my video to be outputted to.

Then in the settings are, i had to make sure it was compressed at H.264 and the keyframe was current, and the size was 1280x720dp! Oh and i had to tick the sound box, as its standard form does not come with sound.

When i had all my settings correct, all i simply had to do is save it where ever i wanted and it took about 5 mins to export each video. Now the video's can be opened up in any software that allows you to play video's in.

    Production Log- Working in FCP

To start off in final cut pro, i had to do a few minor things such set my document size that i wanted my video to be output as (1280x720). And also in the final cut pro i had to adjust the settings, for where i wanted my documents to be saved to, the cache memory etc....

After this, i was off...... The first thing i had to do is look through each clip i had and cut the bits out, that i wanted to include in my film.

The first thing i did was click on my clips that were all stored on the left hand side in my window box. After double clicking the clip, it would appear in the left middle window video. All i simply had to do is select the begining points by pressing I, (in point) and O, (out point), for where i want my clip to start and end.

In this picture the little blue arrows/triangles indicate the In and out points i made for this clip. All i had to do now is drag it onto my timeline.

This shows you how the clip is displayed on my timeline. I can usefully re-edit this clip by double clicking it, and it will pop up in the left hand video window, or also, i can cut the clip with the razor tool as well.

Moving onto sound.... After i had all my editing finished, i dragged my background sound into my timeline. As you can see the pink points along the time line, indicate a change in the level of sound being outputted. I did this simply to lower the sound for when it is a video or someone speaking, so you can fade the background sound out. I did this by using the pen tool, and simply dragging the pink line (running through the sound layer) and re adjusting to level out the sound.

Here is all the tools handy, to my right handside of fcp. The pen tool, is the little pointy arrow at the bottom of the list.

Getting appropriate and creative commons Licence music

Before i started editing my footage, i had to find some music that was free from copy-right and was legal for me to use within my work.

The website i used is: http://www.archive.org

Here is a screen shot of the website, which has a list of different types of music in the centre of the page. After listening to a track from every music kind, i decided i wanted to use some sort of electronic or indie style music, as it fits in with my piece well, and is very flowing.

This shows you the webpage it brings up when you click on a sort of music (search results). The all i had to do is go through the list of music and choose the music that i wanted to download and insert into my piece.

Lastly, i had to make sure each piece of music that i chose, included a creative commons licence, which allows me to use their music for my work, and are free from copyright. Without this licence, i could not use the music for my work, as it is illegal and i could get into trouble.
